Jackson State Community College of Jackson, TN recently announced plans to expand in Weakley County. JSCC plans to open a satellite campus at the Weakley County Adult Learning Center in Dresden, TN.
The move by JSCC is designed to allow local students to benefit from the new TN Promise initiative that makes community college free for the Class of 2015. By opening a satellite campus local students won't have to make the drive to Jackson or Dyersburg, TN to attend community college and take advantage of TN Promise. Once they have obtained their associates degree they'll be able to transition to the University of Tennessee in Martin, TN.
When the new satellite campus opens Weakley County will be home to a community college and a four year university and be in a much better position to offer job opportunities for area residents and a supply of highly trained workers for industries looking to call Weakley County home.
